About Us

Cambridgeshire Celebrates Age (CCA) started with a small event organised by Cambridge COPE at the Cambridge Guildhall.

Since then we’ve been celebrating age all over Cambridgeshire, prompted by the United Nations International Day of Older People which takes place on 1st October each year. We soon discovered that one day in October wasn’t long enough to showcase all that’s available for older people throughout the county, so we decided to take a month to celebrate!

In 2014 it was our tenth year of this annual celebration focussing on the activities available for older people throughout the county.

We also produce “Local Listings” of regular activities available for older people that take place in your local area, following a need first identified in our 2011 Evaluation Report. They are well-received and used by many to celebrate and enjoy age all year round.

The programme and local listings are pulled together by our Steering Group, which is made up of representatives from community and voluntary groups, county and local councils, the NHS, local housing associations and local churches. We meet throughout the year to plan, organise and encourage groups to put on special events in October and send in details of regular events for the local listings. We review and evaluate each year’s programme and incorporate the findings into the next year’s CCA programme and local listings.

We are grateful for the continuing and tireless contributions made in kind by members of our Steering Group (listed in the programme) and for the continuing financial support from Cambridge City Council and South Cambridgeshire District Council.
